Terpsichorean Notations is a multimedia exhibition that combines photography, painting, interactive sculpture, and projections. The exhibition is divided into three sections: Trace Elements, Synergetics, and Choreology. This multidisciplinary work delves into the challenge of notating live performances and our limited vocabulary for the most basic form of human communication: physical movement.

The artist behind this exhibition, Chris Harris, has been choreographing and dancing for over three decades. She is a choreographer, artistic director, visual artist, dancer, and teacher with interests in math, science, data visualization, and a fascination with how we understand art, dance, and the psychology of performance. Workshops accompanying the exhibition will explore improvisational and authentic movement, as well as the use of notation in choreography.

Trace Element(s) was initailly created as the portfolio for my Masters of Fine Arts in Interdisiplinary Art. I am so excited to finally share this work. Most of these pieces were created between 2017-2019 and only slightly edited for this presentation. This section was designed to be experienced both as an exhibit and throught experience. If you are interested, please join us for the movement meditation classes.

Synergistics Of or pertaining to synergy or synergism; co-operative, working together, interacting. These works are designed for you to explore. Designed to encourage understanding and communication, some are experiencial, some are for education, and some are for thinking, and drawing, all around the theme of movement.

Choreology - Dance is emphemeral. Is it even possible to catch all aspects of motion in time, or hold it long enough to share its information? This curiosity has motivated my exploration of dance notation, leading me to create various interdisciplinary works in an effort to record and reproduce the elusive aspects of performance.
